Look at this cute little girl, making friend with a monarch at the butterfly garden. Monarchs are one of the most common varieties of North American butterflies. They migrate from colder to warmer regions every winter, and fly back again in spring. Would you believe it, that these delicate wings can fly upto a distance of 3000 miles on their migration.

These pictures were taken at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle where they have an excellent butterfly exhibit every summer. To shoot this kind of pictures, macro lenses are very useful, which are specially designed for taking pictures of small objects where you need large magnification ratio. I used a 100mm macro lense for the two pictures shown below.
