This picture of the waterskiers were taken in the summer of 1987 during the Regatta festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the subdued sunlight of late afternoon with a regular telephoto lens and Kodachrome 64 film, I found the shutter speed to be too slow for any kind of action photography. So I waited for the group of skiers to come to the area of the water where the sunlight is reflected, and took it as a silhouette picture against the bright background.

The one below is from a trip we took two weeks ago to a small town in Washington State called Port Townsend. Peaceful water, peaceful kayaking.
